Service Line: Epoxy Floor Coating
Sector: Automotive | Dealership Workshop
Location: Brighton, Victoria
Client: Brighton Toyota
Background: This case study outlines how Maxi Blue – MXB Industrial Solutions executed a high-stakes epoxy floor refurbishment for Toyota Brighton in just four days — preserving servicing revenue, protecting brand integrity, and exceeding compliance standards.
“The brief was binary: zero downtime, zero compromise. We deployed the resources, worked with Dulux on system selection, and delivered on-spec and on-time. That’s the standard we hold.” — Ivan Jeličić | CEO | Maxi Blue
Engagement Overview
Toyota Brighton required a full refurbishment of its high-throughput automotive workshop. The existing floor was deteriorated, presented compliance risks, and was misaligned with Toyota’s visual standards. The brief was clear: deliver a clean, durable, non-slip epoxy system over a single long weekend. No schedule extensions, no service disruption.
Maxi Blue was selected based on referrals from prior dealership clients (Ford Hoppers Crossing and Honda Airport West), who cited the team’s ability to deliver epoxy upgrades within compressed windows while maintaining operational continuitys0

Constraints & Risks
- Zero Downtime Tolerance: Service department had to resume Wednesday morning.
- Brand Perception Risk: Any compromise in finish or execution would result in lost revenue and impact on brand perception.
- Safety Compliance: The surface required certification to meet national non-slip standards and full compliance testing by a 3rd party independent testing body.
- Legacy Conditions: The substrate included an aged, poorly bonded coating which introduced grinding variability.
- Customised Surface Spec: Maxi Blue and Dulux collaborated to create a hybrid non-slip texture between two standard finishes to meet the client’s specific preference — balancing slip resistance, compliance, and ease of maintenance.
Project Delivery Approach
The solution deployed by Maxi Blue was a four-day execution cycle anchored around Dulux Luxafloor FCF, a fast-cure epoxy system with high abrasion resistance and slip rating stability, perfect for automotive workshop floors.
Scope of Works:
- Mechanical surface prep (grinding, degreasing, CSP2 profiling)
- Application of Luxafloor Express Primer – 3-hour recoat window
- Anti-slip grit.
- Topcoat: 2x coats of Luxafloor FCF
- Independent pendulum test to confirm slip compliance
- Refurbishment of all workshop surfaces and staff amenities
- Spray painting of Colorbond areas
“Have the time available for us to get the job done, and we will get it done in the allocated time. No ifs, buts or maybes.”

Execution Adaptability
During day one, Maxi Blue identified a previous epoxy layer that significantly increased removal complexity — what should have been 12 hours of preparation became 36. Rather than compromise, the team escalated crew numbers to 25 and re-sequenced shifts in real time to preserve critical path targets.
Outcome Summary
✔ Full delivery within 4-day window
✔ No unplanned downtime for dealership operations
✔ Floor certified to slip-resistance compliance
✔ No post-handover defects or warranty claims
✔ Service resumption Wednesday 8:00am as scheduled

Dulux | Protective Coatings
“Working with MaxiBlue they're about—the client. Satisfaction. They follow spec from start to finish, pre-testing, putting samples down— this is not something that everybody does. To have an independent body come in, assess what they've done; tick that off; client ticks it off; all parties engaged— no gap in communication.
In this particular instance, the client was liking two different non-slip finishes, they wanted something that was somewhere in between the two. We'd worked it in to come up with a hybrid of the two, get that tested for compliance. Really great story about working the client's needs rather than, hey—like it or lump it!”

Dulux Protective Coatings Specialist
James Davide provided key insights into the Brighton flooring upgrade, highlighting the selection of Luxafloor® systems for their speed, chemical resistance, and mechanical durability. His commentary captured the technical precision behind Maxi Blue’s approach — from CSP2 profiling and rapid-cure primers to post-installation compliance testing — ensuring the Brighton workshop achieved faster turnaround, safer conditions, and longer-lasting performance.
About Luxafloor and Its Application in the Brighton Context
Luxafloor is Dulux’s industrial flooring range, purpose-built for commercial and workshop environments. We select specific formulations based on exposure types — vehicle traffic, chemicals, cleaning regimes, and turnaround constraints. This site required a fast return-to-service system with resistance to hydrocarbons and other workshop contaminants
Specification Logic
In Brighton’s case, the existing coating was in poor condition. We opted for a full grind to CSP2 profile — that roughens the surface for a mechanical bond. We recommended Luxafloor Express Primer, which enables a three-hour recoat, allowing both coats in one day. The Luxafloor FCF topcoat allowed safe foot traffic in two hours and full vehicle access in 24 hours.
Performance Metrics
The system was validated using a Taber abrasion test with a clay wheel — the most aggressive abrasion rating. Luxafloor FCF achieved only 80mg of coating loss over 1,000 revolutions. That’s excellent for this class of coating.
Maintenance & Lifespan
With proper cleaning — particularly using alkaline degreasers — the system should last 7–10 years. The anti-slip profile requires consistent housekeeping, or it risks being clogged with oil and debris, degrading performance.
Risk & Compliance Framework
All coatings are aligned to AS standards and HV198 slip resistance guidelines. We independently test each installation post-completion to ensure compliance. Maxi Blue’s insistence on pre-testing, client review, and third-party validation sets them apart.
Client-Centric Adaptation
The Brighton team wanted a non-slip profile somewhere between two standard textures. Rather than a binary approach, Maxi Blue collaborated with us to create a hybrid texture — then had it tested and signed off. That’s not typical. Most contractors deliver spec only.
Reflection
The result? Safer, brighter, more durable flooring. Better visibility for technicians. Minimal downtime. And a client who got exactly what they wanted. Maxi Blue doesn’t just deliver coating — they deliver outcomes.
